About the trip:
Hello lovers of discovering the world.
A magical expedition is ahead of us.
And it's not because of the magic, but because of the uniqueness and beauty of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
It is undoubtedly one of the most enchanting protected areas in Great Britain, ranked as No. 1 in the UK. The diverse geology of the park area has had a tremendous impact on the physical features of the landscape.
The characteristic limestone and sandstone outcrops give this place a unique atmosphere.
In addition, large mountains, wonderful valleys, caves, waterfalls, moors make it necessary to go there.
In addition, the history of people, settlement manifested by the presence of castles, charming villages, towns and cities, including the city of York considered the most beautiful.
The expedition prepared by us will be, as always, active.
We will try to show you the most interesting natural and geological places, but also those that were created and designed by man.
TRIP PLAN:
DAY I
- The first goal of our trip will be to reach the highest peak of the Yorkshire Dales National Park - Whernside. The peak, over 700 m high, offers great views of the surrounding area. From the top, you can easily spot the magnificent Ribblehead Viaduct, which we will approach on our way back. The length of the trail is about 10 km and over 400 m of elevation.
- After descending from Whernside, we will go to the nearby White Scare Cave to admire the magnificent limestone karst below the surface of the earth. This amazing world was created by nature and shaped over many thousands of years. Rich karst forms, stalactites, bowls, wells, draperies give this place a unique beauty. It is also the longest cave to be visited in the UK, the passage of which with a guide takes approx. 80 minutes. - Accommodation in Malham Village after 17.
DAY II
- After breakfast, we will go on a trail that will lead us through the most beautiful karst formations in the Yorkshire Dales. The first destination will be the amazing Malham Cove. This large, amphitheater-like limestone formation was formed by a waterfall carrying glacier water at the end of the last ice age, around 12,000 years ago. It was here, among other things, that Sir Edmund Hillary trained his skills before the first ever climb to Mount Everest in 1953. This unique place also caught the attention of the makers of the Harry Potter and Bear Grylls film, who recorded one of the episodes showing the beauty of the UK here. The loop trail will lead us to Gordale Scar. This is a great example of a limestone ravine, another erosive form created by the activity of water in areas rich in dummy rocks. It has a wall of over 100 meters and could have been created as a result of flowing glacial waters or the collapse of caves. There are two waterfalls in the gorge that form a stream running towards Malham and the Janet's Foss waterfall to which we will also go. The waterfall carries the Gordale Beck mountain pass through limestone outcrops topped with volcanic tuffs. It is a small waterfall that was used by the local people for sheep bathing, and thus for numerous social gatherings. A scene for one of the British films was also shot here. A basin, a karst bowl, is often a place where hikers cool off after a long walk. We will also spend some time in this place. The trail is almost 11 km long with a total of almost 400 m of elevation.
- After returning, we will go to a local pub for a regional mug.
DAY III
- After breakfast, we head to the city of York. It is a real pearl on the map not only of England, Great Britain, but also of Europe. The city is known for its rich history, which has been preserved in the beautiful architecture of many periods. Every year, the city hosts thousands of tourists who want to see medieval buildings interwoven with traces of Vikings and Romans. The cathedral that dominates the city is an example of the largest medieval religious building in England and Northern Europe. York is also referred to as the city of pubs, which is said to be enough for the whole year, visiting a different one every day. Our visit will take the form of a walk around the old part of the city. There will also be free time, which will allow those willing to visit interesting, paid attractions or sit in an atmospheric place for dinner.
- Return in the evening
